About


In 2000, the former State Environmental Protection Administration of China (SEPA) and the Italian Ministry of Environment, Territory and Sea (hereinafter referred to as "the Italian Ministry of Environment") signed a cooperation agreement to launch a Sino-Italian cooperation project on environmental protection. Based on the agreement between the Ministry of environment, land and sea of Italy and the Tongji University, the SICES (Sino-Italian Centre for Sustainability) established in 2012, marked the close relationship between China and Italy in the field of green sustainable science and technology, as an achievement of international cooperation in the field of the worldwide sustainable development. Gathering the professional resources both from Tongji University and Italy, through a series of interactive co-working, the dialogues and the network construction, SICES provides solutions to promote the sustainable development of China and Italy, creates a markable platform for Sino-Italian technological exchanges, for talents cultivation and for the transformation of scientific research achievements.

Organization


The Sino-Italian Centre for Sustainability consists of a Steering Committee, composed of the Vice-President of Tongji University and the Director of the Department of Sustainable Development of the Italian Ministry of the Environment, and an Academic Committee composed of four professors from four Italian partner universities respectively, the Italian Science and Technology Counsellor in Shanghai, and four professors from Tongji University, making up a total of nine members. SICES has a General Management Department, an Education and Training Department, a Research and Development Department and an Industry-University-Research Cooperation Department.
